Gender Cliche

In regard to the women artists in MOMA (pg 32)… is it saying there was a focus on women artists because they were rare or is it the focus of women in the art? Why did curators need “need a special reason to include a lot of women in a show”? It also says that it seemed liberating but I don’t see where the liberating aspect of it is. Why is it that women are associated with primitivism, unconscious and the earth? I understand if it’s dealing with them being childbearing… nature/life… but why not men too? Both part of the creation story! Where did this “gender cliche” come from? (pg 33) Primitivism is related to tribal. How do women = tribal?
